Physical Education/Health Education with Teacher Licensure

Earn the training and field experience to effectively educate students in physical education.
As a teacher-in-training, you’ll have opportunities for field experiences in public schools and to participate in organizing community programs such as the North Carolina Senior Games and Special Olympics. Through the training opportunities available, you’ll develop and practice professional skills to help meet each one of your student’s needs for health, fitness, and physical skills.
Your major in Physical Education/Health Education includes education and training in accordance with North Carolina DPI standards. The program is NCATE accredited, and will result in dual licensure, qualifying you for employment in the public schools at any grade level.
The program concludes with a professional semester, during which you will put coursework into practice as a full-time student teacher in one of the area schools.
In addition to the Gardner-Webb University general education program requirements, students will be required to complete 39 hours within the major and 22 hours within the required Professional Education Minor.

When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to begin a professional career in the schools or to pursue graduate studies within the field. This program of study can also prepare you for entry into other related careers such as coaching, recreation, and sports/fitness instruction.
Our graduates are in-demand, and most have been employed immediately upon graduation within the public schools. Our graduates also remain in touch with our department after they leave us, partly through the means of our regularly published newsletter.
