University Welcomes Family, Friends for Worship, Athletics, & Entertainment Events

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Gardner-Webb will proudly welcome university friends this week for Family Weekend activities that will include a special worship service, campus athletic events, and various entertainment options open to the campus and greater community. Some events require advance registration and fees.

The annual Family Weekend, set for Sept. 19-21, offers students’ family members a look at life on the GWU campus, said Karissa Weir, director of Student Activities, Campus Recreation, and New Student Orientation. “The weekend gives Gardner-Webb family members an opportunity to experience the University community that is shaping their son’s or daughter’s life.  It’s also a chance to connect with other Runnin’ Bulldog families.”

Activities begin Friday with afternoon greetings to visitors and evening events that include a jazz cabaret show in the Millennium Playhouse, and bingo and dessert offered in the Tucker Student Center.

The fun continues on Saturday with a brunch hosted by the dean of students, open climbing at the Broyhill Adventure Course, a family tailgate at the Tucker Student Center, home volleyball and football games, and a repeat performance of the jazz show.

On Sunday, the festivities conclude with a family worship service in Dover Chapel, a home volleyball game, and a matinee performance of the jazz cabaret.

Throughout the weekend, the University will seek the community’s help in collecting socks to donate to homeless men. Socks can be dropped off in the entry lobby of the Tucker Student Center, and at Spangler Stadium during Gardner-Webb’s home football game against Wofford at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Fans will receive free admittance to the game with the donation of one pack of new men’s socks.
