Comedy Show Scheduled for the Stage in October

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Gardner-Webb University will hold auditions next week for a theatrical comedy set to be staged in October.

Auditions for Tartuffe are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 2 and Wednesday Sept. 3, from 6-9 p.m. both nights.  Callbacks are set for Thursday, Sept. 4, and the times will be announced next week.

Tartuffe is a French farce set in 17th Century Parisian high society during the reign of King Louis XIV.  Orgon, a wealthy family man, welcomes a stranger named Tartuffe into his home.  Tartuffe appears to be a pious and devout religious man, but he is actually a con man who does not practice what he preaches.

Dr. Christopher Nelson, GWU Assistant Professor of Theatre, will direct the production. Actors interested in auditioning for the play must sign up for a five-minute time slot by contacting Nelson at cnelson2@gardner-webb.edu.

Auditions are open to all Gardner-Webb students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the community.  Multiple roles are available for men and women.  Actors are asked to arrive at auditions with a memorized 30-to-60-second monologue.

Gardner-Webb will present Tartuffe on campus from Wednesday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 12.
