GWU Presents Award-Winning Guitarist in First Concert of Distinguished Artist Series

Dr. Adam Kossler Performs Sept. 23 in Blanton Auditorium

Dr. Adam KosslerBOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—An award-winning guitarist will be featured in the first concert of the Distinguished Artist Series at Gardner-Webb University. Presented by the GWU School of Performing and Visual Arts, Dr. Adam Kossler will perform Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. in Hamrick Hall’s Blanton Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public.

Kossler began his musical studies with his father, William Kossler, and continued his musical training through college with Dr. Elliot Frank receiving his Bachelor of Music degree at East Carolina University. He then earned a master’s degree at Appalachian State University, where he was a teaching assistant to Dr. Douglas James. Most recently, he completed his doctorate at Florida State University while serving as a teaching assistant to Bruce Holzman.

Holzman describes Kossler as one of the finest players of his generation. “His playing is characterized by a virtuoso technique, beautiful sound and a sincere musicality,” Holzman observed.

Kossler has been a top prizewinner in a number of guitar competitions including the Boston Guitarfest, Columbus Guitar Symposium, East Carolina Guitar Competition, Music Academy of North Carolina Guitar Competition, Texas International Guitar Competition, Music Teacher National Association Competition, and the Appalachian Guitarfest Competition.

He performs regularly as a solo artist, as a member of the NOVA Guitar Quartet, and with the Kossler Guitar Trio alongside his father, Bill, and brother, John. He has been featured on many prestigious concert series including the John E. Marlow Guitar Series (Bethesda, Md.), Isle Newell Concert Series (Appalachicola, Fla.), and the Seven Hills Guitar Series (Tallahassee, Fla.).
