BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—The Gardner-Webb University School of Education has received national recognition for its online Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree. TheBestSchools.org, an education resource website, named GWU to its list of the top 25 schools in the nation. Additionally, Gardner-Webb was one of three North Carolina schools in the ranking and the only N.C. private school to be honored.

Dr. Prince Bull, dean of the School of Education, said the recognition is a testament to GWU’s dedicated team. “As a K-12 friendly university, this honor reflects our academic excellence, rigor, student-centered faculty, innovation, and digital integration,” Bull observed. “Excellence is our minimum standard.”

TheBestSchools.org formulates rankings based on six informational categories—academic excellence based on a school’s curriculum, strength of faculty scholarship, reputation, financial aid, range of degree programs, and strength of online instruction methodology.

In addition to Gardner-Webb’s required general education and prerequisite courses, the online elementary education program curriculum consists of three semesters of coursework and field experiences (49 hours) with the fourth semester consisting of a student teaching experience (12 hours). Students take twelve or more hours each semester plus six hours during the summer semester. All classes can be taken in an online format.

“Our conceptual framework merges the University’s motto to serve ‘God and Humanity’ with our academic excellence to produce catalysts for positive, sustainable change in North Carolina and beyond,” Bull affirmed. “For us, education is a ministry that changes the trajectory of all students.”
