Location in Tucker Student Center Increases Store’s Visibility & Accessibility

BOILINGS SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University Campus Store will feature a wide range of back-to-school items that are exempt from state sales tax during the North Carolina Sales Tax Holiday weekend Aug. 2-4.

Since 2002, the North Carolina Department of Revenue has set aside the first weekend of August as a sales tax exemption period on back-to-school necessities including clothing, school supplies, and even computers.  For new and current students, faculty, alumni, and members of the community at large, the tax-free weekend means they can purchase a variety of items from the GWU Campus Store and enjoy a cost savings.

The event exempts clothing, footwear, and school supplies of $100 or less per item; school instructional materials ($300 or less per item); sports and recreational equipment ($50 or less); computers ($3,500 or less); computer supplies ($250 or less); and tablet computers and netbooks ($3,500 or less per item).  However, eReaders do not quality for the exemption.

The GWU Campus Store relocated to the Tucker Student Center complex in 2012.  Their upgraded location offers expanded visibility and accessibility of available merchandise.  On Friday, the store will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Saturday, the hours of operation are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The GWU Campus Store will be closed Sunday.
