Athletic Training Program Seeking Donations for Upcoming Dominican Republic Mission Trip

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — The Gardner-Webb Athletic Training Program is looking for help to fund its mission trip to the Dominican Republic this May, and is offering several different means through which people can donate.

Assistant Athletic Trainer Stephenie Stark and two Gardner-Webb athletic training students will depart campus on May 13 and travel to the Dominican Republic to help those less fortunate than themselves. Through Christian Sports Medicine Alliance (CSMA) and a partnership with SCORE International, Stark and the students will be teaming up with Dr. Doug Duncan of SCORE and their team of missionaries to help raise the profile of athletic training and make a difference in the lives of others.

The students couldn’t be more excited about the trip and the opportunity to use their skills in a different setting. “I’m excited to incorporate my athletic training major with the trip, and see what God has in store for the trip,” said senior athletic training student Amanda Morcom.

Morcom, along with sophomore Karsen Moody, will be traveling with Stark as part of an initiative Stark hopes can become an annual venture for her and Gardner-Webb. Her mission, along with that of SCORE and CSMA, is for this initiative to spread not only to more of Gardner-Webb’s academic areas, but also to other departments within college athletics as well.

Parties interested in helping the athletic training program meet their goals for the trip have several choices from which to choose: through Christian Sports Medicine Alliance’s website (, financial or material donations can be made via the “Donate” link on the right-hand side of the homepage. From there, select the means by which you wish to donate and be sure to mark “GWU” in the “Special Requests” field before completing your donation. All donations are tax deductible.

Stark, Morcom and Moody are also in need of medical supplies for their trip, which can be purchased and donated as well. Those interested in contributing this way may purchase the items they wish from the list below (CSMA Medical Supplies) and contact Stark via email at
