The Official Open House and Dedication is Aug. 28

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A dream is now a reality. Gardner-Webb University’s magnificent and transformational Tucker Student Center officially opens its doors during a dedication, ribbon cutting and open house on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 4:00 p.m.  Close to a thousand guests, including students, faculty and staff, trustees and university friends, are expected to attend.

During the event, GWU President Dr. Frank Bonner will recognize and acknowledge the major donors who have helped make this facility come to life, including namesakes Bob and Carolyn Tucker.  The Tuckers’ relationship with Gardner-Webb began several years ago when their daughter Lisa attended GWU. Carolyn previously said, “Gardner-Webb changed my daughter’s life.” Because of that change, they knew they wanted to be a part of this university.

The Tuckers are the founders of the successful business Shoe Show, based in Concord, N.C. It features over 1,100 locations throughout the country.  Other significant donors to the Center are the Frank Stewart family, Duke Energy, the Cannon Foundation, Shelby Savings Bank and others.

Guest speakers will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony held inside Stewart Hall (located inside Tucker Student Center). The School of Performing and Visual Arts will provide background music, alumni artwork will be featured in the gallery, and guided tours will be available.  Food options will be provided during the event, and special guests can also expect to receive a specially designed commemorative keepsake in honor of the day.

The Tucker Student Center has already become a popular destination for the campus body, but it is also the new home for other university offices and departments as well.  Now located in the Tucker Student Center are Campus Ministries, Student Activities and Development, numerous study areas, restaurants, the Campus Shop, a screening room, and a three-story climbing wall and more.

Aug. 28 will be a memorable day for Gardner-Webb, as the Tucker Student Center officially begins serving the University, the community and, most of all, the students.

Located in Boiling Springs, N.C., Gardner-Webb University blends a liberal arts core curriculum with more than 55 major and minor programs of specialized study, a comprehensive academic experience that flows from our Christian commitment to intellectual freedom, service and leadership.
