University ChoraleBOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Musical groups from Gardner-Webb University will perform in a benefit concert Tuesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C. Contributions of canned goods, toiletries and non-perishable food items are requested for admission to the event. Donations will benefit the Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association (GCCBA) in cooperation with First Baptist Church.

Vocal and instrumental selections will be presented by the University Chorale conducted by Dr. Morgan C. Soja, the Old Time Ensemble directed by Dr. Bruce Moser, and the Treble and Chamber ensembles directed by Professor Jondra Harmon.

Members of the University Chorale held their first benefit in the spring of 2016 and have hosted a similar event each semester. “The University Chorale is a group on Gardner-Webb’s campus that wants to live our motto, ‘Pro Deo Et Humanitate’ (For God and Humanity),” explained Soja, GWU Assistant Professor of Music Education. “We wanted to be able to give back to the community in ways that would be tangible and real for those who are less fortunate.”

According to Katie Harris, GCCBA Missions and Ministry Team Leader, the organization will distribute the food and hygiene items to families in need. “In an average month we provide food for 30 families, so we estimate that over 1,500 people are provided with food from our pantry each year,” Harris shared.

Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request 48 hours prior to the event. Please call 704-406-4270 or email with your request.
