Former Urban Missionary Steven Porter Will Share His Story

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Dimensions program at Gardner-Webb University announces its next guest for the 2015 spring semester. Global Missions Coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) Steven Porter will share his story on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 9:25 a.m. in the Paul Porter Arena, located inside the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center (LYCC).  The event is free and open to the public.

“Steven Porter is someone who has lived out what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the world,” said Dr. Tracy Jessup, vice president for Christian Life and Service and senior minister to the University. “Most notably is his work with Touching Miami with Love, a flagship inner-city Christian ministry serving the poor, disadvantaged and isolated in downtown Miami and Overtown. It is an honor to have him speak in Dimensions.”

A strategic and innovative former CBF field employee, Porter previously served seven years with the urban ministry Touching Miami with Love, including five years as the executive director. He is a native of Carthage, Mo., who graduated from William Jewell College in Missouri. and Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Ga.

Gardner-Webb University’s Dimensions programs are free and open to the public. The goal of Dimensions is to enhance the spiritual, intellectual and cultural life at the University and also to promote a sense of community.
