Performance Featuring Gershwin Classics Scheduled at GWU Millenium Theatre

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A select group of Gardner-Webb University faculty and friends will present “’S Wonderful: An Evening of Cabaret” with performances March 1-2 at 7 p.m. and a special matinee performance on March 3 at 2 p.m. in Gardner-Webb University’s Millennium Theatre (located behind the Communication Studies building). Due to a limited 75 seats per show, reservations are required.

Written by Dr. Joseph Webb, professor of communication studies, ‘S Wonderful will feature Mary Roby, Jim Sansing, Don Hardin and Matt Whitfield as well as jazz pianist Phillip Howe, a former Gardner-Webb student.

“Last year, a lot of people around Boiling Springs and Shelby got a taste of real Cabaret, with its food and drink around the sidewalk-style tables, all the time enjoying a great evening of informal music and entertainment,” said Webb.

The Gershwins were world-renowned 20th century composers and lyricists. Famous Gershwin compositions such as “A Foggy Day in London Town” and “I got Rhythm” will be showcased in the Cabaret.   “Rhapsody in Blue,” written in 1924 for a jazz band featuring a piano soloist, will also be a featured number, combining elements of classical music with jazz influences.

Tickets for Gardner-Webb University students are $2, while university faculty and staff tickets are $5. Community tickets are $10, and youth under the age of 15 will be admitted for $5.  To reserve tickets or for more information, call 704-406-4372.
