Students from 13 States Compete for 8 Awards Valued at $31,220

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Over the course of four days of interviews, the Gardner-Webb University Office of Admissions will welcome 200 students from 13 states to compete in the Ignite Excellence Scholarship program. The first interview days were held Jan. 28-29 and the second round of interviews will be Feb. 4-5. These students, who represent the top tier academically, are competing for one of eight full-tuition scholarships. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition for fall and spring semesters and are valued at $31,220.

The average Grade Point Average (GPA) of these students is 4.45. “The group of students this year for Ignite Excellence represents our best and brightest accepted students for fall 2021,” observed Julie C. Fleming, assistant vice president for Undergraduate Admissions. “Their academic credentials demonstrated through the admissions process have earned them an invitation to Ignite Excellence. The scholarship event is an opportunity for the Gardner-Webb community to learn more about their personal journey and their goals for the future. It’s exciting to meet and to get to know our future Runnin’ Bulldogs.”

In addition to interviewing with a faculty member, the students also learn more about Gardner-Webb through a “Department Table Fair,” with representatives from GWU’s 14 academic departments offering more than 80 undergraduate and graduate major fields of study. The students also participate in a tour of the campus and enjoy a meal in the cafeteria.

Students who do not receive an Ignite Excellence Scholarship will earn a $2,000 participation scholarship. Gardner-Webb offers a variety of financial aid packages. For more information about the admissions process, email [email protected].
