Christian Service Organization (CSO)
The challenge for funding theological education for ministry excellence is great. Students and their families face economic pressures that require an ever-strengthening commitment for the Christian community to provide the resources to undergird the preparation for ministry in service to the Kingdom of God. With your help the Christian Service Organization has provided a foundation of support for those preparing for ministry for over two generations.
CSO provides scholarship assistance to students preparing for fulltime Christian vocational ministry. It began in 1971 when two members of the Gardner-Webb family, Dr. J. Thurman Lewis and the Reverend Charles W. “Buddy” Freeman captured a vision to provide financial assistance for students preparing for ministry. That dream gave birth to an organization of individuals, businesses, and churches who shared their passion for assisting students in preparing for ministry.
Today scholarship assistance is provided for undergraduate students preparing for ministry and students in the School of Divinity. Recipients must be students preparing for fulltime Christian service who exhibit exemplary moral character.
How It Works
Contributions are placed in the Christian Service Organization endowment. Interest earned from this endowment provides scholarship assistance to students. Gifts to the CSO are diverse. They have been cash, stocks, real estate, or other appreciated assets. Estate gifts and/or gifts of trusts provide opportunities for CSO members to be stewards of their resources beyond their lifetimes for the training of ministers for the future.
Membership in the CSO is open to individuals, churches, and businesses who share the vision of the CSO. The annual membership cost is $100. You may also join CSO through a planned gift such as an Annuity, Charitable Trust, Estate Plan, or memorial gift. The CSO has numerous endowed scholarships.
