SCOT LAHAIE AND THE GARDNER-WEBB THEATER PROGRAM PRESENT THE CRUCIBLE
Boiling Springs, NC – This week, the theatre program at Gardner-Webb University will present “The Crucible,” by Arthur Miller. The performance will take place at 7:30 PM in the Dover Theatre in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center each night. The show will run through Saturday, Oct. 4, and is open to the public.
Miller was a Pulitzer Prize winner American playwright who lived during the 20th century. He wrote The Crucible in 1953 as a reminder of a certain stain on human history.
The play takes place in Salem, Mass. during the 17th century and is based on a true story.
It centers on the mad witch hunts of the Salem witch trials in the late 17th century. Through his play, Miller reminds his audience that no matter what mistakes are made, they can rise over adversity.
The main character, John Proctor, and his wife Elizabeth Proctor, will be played by sophomore Ron Houser and senior Amy Elliot.
Rev. Parris will be played by senior Stephen Bell. Rev. John Hale will be played by freshman Matthew Kigger.
Senior Shane Bryant will represent Deputy Gov. Danforth and senior Stacie Worrell will represent Abigail Williams.
Elliot states, “there is a much different element to this production of The Crucible than has ever been done before. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into making it really great, and I hope everyone comes out to see it!”
