GWU Hosts High School Choral Clinic

Featuring Guest Clinician, Dr. Brad Holmes

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University Music Program presents its 34th Annual Choral Clinic and Concert, a day long event for nearly 200 high school students from both Carolinas (20 schools) that culminates in a concert featuring various GWU choirs. The concert will take place at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Oct. 13 in Dover Theatre, located in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

This year's guest clinician is Dr. Brad Holmes of Millikin University, located in Decatur, Ill. Holmes has served as associate professor and director of choral activities at Millikin since 1991. His extensive guest-conducting schedule includes festivals, clinics and honor choirs throughout the United States, as well as events in Europe and the Far East.

This year's clinic features participants from high schools in numerous North and South Carolina counties, including Cleveland, Rutherford, Ashe, and York counties. High schools were invited to select up to eight music students for the day-long clinic event.

"The students and their teachers enjoy valuable time working closely with our guest clinician, and get to perform alongside our choirs as well," said Dr. Paul Etter, director of choral activities at Gardner-Webb.

The evening concert will begin with a performance by the GWU Concert Choir, followed by this year's featured high school choir from Jimmy C. Draughn High School in Valdese, N.C. The evening concludes with selections from the mass choir, featuring the participating schools and the combined GWU choirs—all under the direction of Holmes.
