Fall Break Gives Gardner-Webb Student Missionaries a Chance to Shine

Projects led by the Office of Christian Life and Service

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Most students spend fall break vacationing or visiting family and friends. But later this month, several Gardner-Webb University students will spend fall break on the mission field, rolling up their sleeves and getting busy for a good cause.

The Gardner-Webb Office of Christian Life and Service will send out two mission groups Oct. 21-25. One group is headed to Birmingham, Ala., to partner with that city’s Christian Service Mission to assist the small community of Webster’s Chapel in much-needed tornado relief. “Christian Service Missions has partnered with contractors, pastors, community residents and volunteers to see God do amazing things in the rebuilding of lives. We are grateful to have the opportunity to participate and share Christ,” said Dr. Tracy Jessup, vice president for Christian life and service and senior minister to Gardner-Webb.

The other team is off to Red Springs, N.C., where they will assist the Red Springs Mission Camp, operated by the North Carolina Baptist Men. The team will work in an apartment complex with children whose parents are dealing with various addictions, and they will do yard work and other camp duties. Team leader Mike Boone said, “Being able to participate in these projects, and watching our students gain mission experience, will be a joy.”
