“‘Twas the Night” Event to Benefit the Salvation Army Toy Closet

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.— Gardner-Webb University invites the community to ring in the Christmas season with its inaugural Christmas celebration “‘Twas the Night,” on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Blanton Auditorium, located inside Gardner-Webb’s Hamrick Hall.  Guests should bring an unwrapped, new toy as the price of admission, to be donated to the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Closet.

Part concert, part drama, part sing-along and storytelling session, “‘Twas the Night” is a dynamic musical event based around two dramatic scenes—a contemporary Christmas fireside scene and the biblical nativity scene.  A variety of local performers including bands and solo musicians, dancers, actors and creative readers will perform and, throughout the evening, will lead the audience in singing the Christmas classics.  There may even be a surprise appearance from one pleasantly plump saint in a red suit.

Refreshments will be available at intermission, and a reception with refreshments will immediately follow the show’s conclusion.

“When the annual Christmas event with Carl Cartee stopped, we wanted to find some way to continue the tradition of celebrating the Christmas season and meeting real needs in our community through the Salvation Army,” said Kelly Brame, assistant director of student activities and the event’s coordinator. “This evening will be lots of fun for the family, especially for kids, and it will offer the chance to show our young people that the best part of Christmas is giving good gifts.”

Auxiliary aids will be made available to persons with disabilities upon request ten working days prior to the event.  Please call 704-406-4259 to make a request.

For more information, call Kelly Brame at 704-406-4257.
