Cases of Water, New Underwear, and Other Donations Accepted Now Through Sept. 18

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Hurricane Harvey continues to affect countless individuals in Texas. Dozens of people have lost their lives and many more are missing. Thousands of citizens have lost everything they owned and costly clean-up efforts will soon begin.

To help those in Texas affected by the devastating flooding, Gardner-Webb University’s IMPACT Center for Christian Ethics and Social Responsibility has joined forces with Boiling Springs businesses, Turner Trucking Company and Broad River Co. (formerly Broad River Coffee Company). Turner Trucking is coordinating efforts to collect cases of bottled water (individual size bottles) through Sept. 18. The main drop-off location will be the lobby of the Tucker Student Center, and Turner Trucking will deliver the water to Texas as soon as the supplies drive is complete.

“Continuing the drive through Sept. 18 allows us to involve families in the relief effort as the end of the drive will culminate with Family Weekend,” said Dr. Tracy Jessup, vice president for the Office of Christian Life and Service and senior minister to the University. “We are asking students to communicate this service opportunity to their families should they be participating in Family Weekend.”

Broad River Co. is launching an underwear drive, and the collection site will be at their Main Street location in Boiling Springs. Most organizations sponsoring drives collect used clothing, water, and canned goods. However, underwear is one of the single greatest needs. New underwear in all sizes for men, women, and children will be appreciated.
