Honor Marks Third Recognition for University Accounting Programs in 2015

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Gardner-Webb University’s online bachelor’s degree in accounting has been recognized as one of the nation’s 15 best programs by a website that provides education and workforce information for accounting fields. The ranking by Accounting.com is the third honor in 2015 for GWU’s online accounting programs and the second in the past month for the University’s online baccalaureate accounting program.

The online bachelor’s degree in accounting is offered through Gardner-Webb’s Degree Completion Program (DCP), which provides traditional undergraduate courses at convenient times and locations for working adults. In May, Online Accounting Degree Programs (OADP) ranked GWU’s degree No. 1 in the Carolinas and among the top 25 programs nationwide. This month, Accounting.com ranked Gardner-Webb in its top 15, among schools that include Auburn University (Auburn, Ala.), Washington State University (Pullman, Wash.) and Liberty University (Lynchburg, Va.).

“The recognition by Accounting.com validates that our program design and execution are working as intended,” shared Dr. Earl Godfrey, professor of accounting in GWU’s Godbold School of Business. “We are fortunate to be able to extend the quality of our traditional on-campus program to our online evening DCP through the involvement of our traditional on-campus faculty and carefully selected adjunct professors.”

Accounting.com created its rankings using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), the National Center for Education Statistics and the U.S. Department of Education. Rankings criteria included graduation rate, quality of curriculum, student preference and school reputation. All of the schools on the list offer a fully online program and are recognized by prominent accrediting agencies for business and accounting programs. GWU’s Godbold School of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

In addition to the recent online bachelor’s degree honors, GWU’s online Master of Accountancy (MAcc) was ranked No. 16 nationwide earlier this year by OADP. The GWU Godbold Graduate School of Business also received national recognition in 2015 with a spot in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of the top online graduate degrees in the country.

“The consistent national and world recognition of our business school is an affirmation of our relentless pursuit of excellence in business education,” offered Dr. Anthony Negbenebor, dean of the Godbold School of Business. “We are grateful to our students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni for their contributions.”
