Mission Statement: “To use the power of words to inspire and encourage others.”

Sigma Tau Delta is an English honor society for students at four-year colleges and universities dedicated to fostering literacy, social justice, and all aspects of the discipline of English.

Sigma Tau Delta was established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing.

Membership

Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is through a local chapter on behalf of the international organization. Candidates for undergraduate membership and graduate membership must have completed:

  1. a minimum of two college courses in English language or literature, and
  2. a minimum of a B or equivalent average in English and in general scholarship.

What We Do

Members meet once a month to develop service projects, to organize social activities, and to plan the end of the semester spring induction day trip. See the departmental chair or the faculty advisor if you qualify.

Upcoming Events

Sigma Tau Delta sponsors several events throughout the year, such as Banned Books Week in September, National Novel Writing Month in November, National Poetry Month in April, Read-Ins for Pride Month in June and African American Literature in February, a senior cookout in May, and a Sigma Tau Delta Induction trip.
