Background

Powell has over 35 years of professional communications experience working in radio, both traditional broadcasting and online. He has work for three different radio station over his broadcasting career. He began teaching at GWU as an adjunct in 1999 primarily teaching in the degree completion program. Powell began teaching in the Communications and New Media department in 2005. He joined the department as a full-time faculty member in 2017 when the campus online radio station was fully integrated into the department.

Powell and wife Lydia have three children, Jacob, Sarah and Leah.
