InterLibrary Loan service is available to all currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. Patrons can request books and other materials not owned by Dover Library, and can obtain photocopies of articles from periodicals not available in the library's collection or available in full text electronically.
Before requesting an item on InterLibrary Loan, it is important to ascertain that it is not available through Dover Library. For books, this can be done by doing a title search in MAX, the library's online catalog. For articles, a patron can consult, MAX and the library's complete A-toZ title list to be certain that a particular periodical is not owned by the library and that the given article is not available full text in one of the online databases the library subscribes to.
Requests may take 10-14 days to fill. Patrons are requested to submit requests early enough to give the ILL staff enough time to order the materials they need. While Dover Library does not charge for its interlibrary loan service and makes every effort to borrow items for free, there may be a fee charged by the lending library. The library will pay the first $5. You must indicate on the request form the maximum cost you are willing to pay. In some cases, the library may not be able to request an article due to compliance with federal copyright law.
Patrons are responsible for returning books borrowed through ILL by the due date listed on the label affixed to each book. Due dates on ILL books will vary. Overdue fines for ILL books are $1.00 per day per item. If an ILL item becomes overdue, the borrower is expected to pay the fine. If an ILL book is lost, the patron is expected to pay all overdue fines plus the replacement cost and associated fees charged to us by the lending library.
