Sign Language Teachers Association (ASTLA) The website of the national
organization of teachers of ASL has information on its governance and
chapters, ASL
teacher certification,
as well as bulletins, workshops, and job openings.
Deaf Culture Booklist An
extensive list of books about Deaf Culture compiled by someone interested
in the subject. Information on how the bibliography was compiled is included.
Each entry has the title, author, date, and description of the book.
Deaf/Hard of
Hearing Organizations This webpage is a list of organizations that
provide products and services for the deaf and the hard of hearing. Each
entry includes the name, contact information, and (if available) the
email address/URL for the organization. The page also has a list of listservs
and other informational websites.
The Deaf Resource Library Maintained
by a doctoral student in anthropology at Yale, this site is an extensive collection
of links of worldwide resources about Deaf Culture. There is an emphasis on Deaf
Cultures in Japan (including Japanese Sign Language) and the U.S. There are also
links to organizations, schools, and resources in other countries. Links include
WWW sites, gopher pages, FTP sites, lists, and newsgroups.
Gallaudet University The world's only
university for deaf and hard of hearing students. Information includes admissions,
departments, schools, research, and conferences.
National Association of the Deaf NAD website
has information about the organization, including news about events relevant
to the deaf community. There is also a page of links to organizational affiliates
of the NAD, and state associations for the deaf.
National Center on Deafness, California State
University, Northridge This center serves not only CSUN students, but also
serves the Deaf community at large through the Postsecondary Education Programs
Network (PEPNET) Resource Center. The PRC provides information on its products
through an online catalog.
North Carolina School for the Deaf Located
in Morganton, NC, the school has information not only about its programs but
also has links to Schools for the Deaf all over the country.
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) This
is an organization whose members interpret for the deaf during public (and other)
occasions. The website has information on interpreter training, certification,
and ethics. There are also FAQs, links, and a chat room.
Sign Media Home Page SMI is the world's
leading producer of video and text material on ASL and American Deaf Culture.
Its webpage includes information about these topics and about SMI's products.
SLA Online Sign Language Associates,
Inc., a business, maintains a resource page on sign language and deaf culture.
Subject Headings
Related to Deafness Maintained by Wallace Library at the University of Rochester,
this is a list of subject headings used in Wallace's catalog. When used with
the Library of Congress Subject Headings books, these headings can be a useful
resource for research in many libraries.
French
American and French Research
on the Treasury of the French Language Project A research tool for all areas
of French studies, ARTFL has nearly 2000 texts, including classics of French
literature from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. In addition to texts,
there are reference tools such as the ARTFL database bibliography, the French-English
dictionary, and a French Bible. A search engine is available.

maps, calendars, newspapers, magazines, radio/TV stations, dictionaries, language
exercises, and other resources are available through this site at UNC's Foreign

Online Russian Reference Grammar Maintained by Robert Beard at Bucknell University,
this tutorial comes with instructions for downloading Cyrillic fonts. Lessons
include basic spelling rules, parts of speech, and a link to Russian Studies
materials.
Spanish
Internet Resources for Latin
America A huge list of Web resources about Latin America, including directories,
databases, websites, listservs, and newsgroups. Many of these are on servers
in Latin America and include government sites, news, and organization websites.
Political Database of the Americas Maintained
at Georgetown University, this database contains documents relating to the politics
of countries in North, South, and Central America, as well as the Caribbean.
Documents include constitutions; political parties; electoral systems; executive,
legislative, and judicial institutions; and organic legislation.
