What
are the system requirements for using iPreach on my PC?
iPreach should be fully accessible on any PC with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/XP/VISTA, a
133 MHz or faster processor, and at least 32 MB of memory. The site is optimized
for Internet Explorer 4.0+ but should work with Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, and
other recent browser versions. In Netscape, some of the backgrounds and buttons
on the site might appear differently, and certain features may not function
correctly. If you are having trouble with the colors displaying in your Netscape
browser, try configuring the browser to always accept the colors provided by
the current document. Macintosh users should also be able to access iPreach,
but the recommended browser for Mac is Netscape 4.76 or 4.77; Internet Explorer
5.0 may also be compatible for the most part, but version 5.1 is not.
In order to use the Java-based version of the site's Table of Contents,
your PC will need to have the appropriate Java software installed.
If the Java-based Table of Contents does not appear or you are prompted
to install a Java plug-in, you can download the appropriate software
from the following site: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.

the Advanced category).
How
do I navigate the iPreach site?
The iPreach site consists of three main sections: a contents frame on the left;
a toolbar at the top of the page; and a document frame where search forms,
search requests, and search results are displayed In addition, you will find
a navigation button bar located in the area between the toolbar and the document
window proper.
Table of Contents: you may view the Table of Contents, located in
a column on the left side of the iPreach screen, in either HTML or
JAVA; the default setting is JAVA. If the TOC box does not appear when
you enter iPreach, or if you get a message saying that a Java plugin
is required, you will need to download and install a small Java client
on your PC in order to use the Java functionality of iPreach. You may
be prompted to download this plug-in automatically . If not, the necessary
software can be downloaded from the following site: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.
To view the table of contents in HTML format, click on the HTML tab
at the top of the TOC column.

Java-based Table of Contents

|
HTML-based Table of Contents

|
The JAVA view offers one key advantage that the HTML view does not:
the ability to burrow down through the folders and expand or contract
each heading, thereby viewing everything in the table of contents in
its proper context. Each heading and sub-heading can be expanded by
clicking on the + sign and contracted by clicking on the - sign. The
HTML view does not allow for such easy maneuverability. It adds a separator
line; above that line, the path to your current selection appears,
while below that line, the folders and documents located in your selected
area appear; all other headings and sections no longer appear on the
menu. The JAVA view allows you to see every available heading and your
respective place in the subheadinig hierarchy at all times.
The
Java Table of Contents is not working correctly.
In order to use the Java-based version of the site's Table of Contents,
your PC will need to have the appropriate Sun Java software installed.
If the Java-based Table of Contents does not appear or if you are prompted
to install a Java plug-in, you can download the appropriate software
from the following site: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.
How
do I search the iPreach site?
You
can use the Table of Contents in order to browse the iPreach collection
of resources, including different Bible commentary series, collected sermons,
etc. If you are looking for something specific, such as a term or a certain
chapter and verse of the Bible, you can institute a search via the search
toolbar.
A list of search hits will be displayed, ranked in order of relevance, under
the Search Results tab. Click on the link to any search hit to view
that particular document. The document will appear under the Document
tab; to get back to the list of search hits, click on the Results tab;
to see both the document and the results list simultaneously, click
on the Doc/Results tab.
Toward the top of the document window, you will see two links called
Sync TOC and Reference. When
you click on Reference, a box appears identifying the title path of
the document location. If you want to find other documents in a similar
context, you can click on Sync TOC to see the document's location in
the Table of Contents frame of reference.
You can move back and forth between adjacent documents by using the
Next Document and Previous Document links on the toolbar. Within
documents, Bible references are identified in underlined blue; click
on one of these links to see a pop-up window containing the Biblical
text of the reference. You can also open the Bible translation box
at any time by clicking on the Bible icon toward the top of the document
frame window.
Help is readily available online, as well, and can be accessed by
clicking on the icon
in the document frame window. Here you can find information on performing
advanced searches, filtering your searches, viewing document excerpts
in your search results list, etc.
Where
can I find Hebrew and Greek fonts for use in iPreach?
iPreach does make available several specialized fonts to display Greek and
Hebrew characters on the site. These fonts must be installed on the local hard
drive of your machine. You can find additional information and instructions
for downloading and installing the Greek and Hebrew fonts in the site's Table
of Contents. Under Cokesbury Online Resources, select iPreachBible.com, and
go to the document named Fonts.
