Associations
The Academy of American Poets The
Academy features a gallery of nineteenth and twentieth century poets;
each entry has a brief biography, a selected bibliography, and exhibits
on the Web. This site also has information on Academy membership, a
calendar of events, information on National Poetry month, and FAQs
about publishing.
Modern Language Association The
MLA has a well-organized site that has links to information on the
association, its annual convention, reports, and committees. There
is also a Job Information List, the MLA style, and information on MLA
publications.
Electronic Collections
American Verse Project This
project is a collection of pre-1920 American poetry. It can be searched
by keyword or browsed. There is also a hyper-bibliography to American
poetry. Many of the texts are in HTML and include illustrations from
the original publication.
Bulfinch's Mythology Bulfinch's
includes The Age of Fable, The Age of Chivalry, and The Legends of
Charlemagne. Please note that some chapters are still under construction.
A Celebration of
Women Writers Information about women writers can often be hard
to find. This site features the work of female writers from all over
the world, arranged by author name, century, and country. Also included
are bibliographies and specialty collections.
Literary Resources
on the Net Maintained by Jack Lynch at the University of Pennsylvania,
this site has an extensive collection of links to literary sites,
organized by genre, with an emphasis on English and American literature.
Mr. William Shakespeare
and the Internet An excellent site! Annotated, scholarly Shakespeare
links abound on this website. The Bard's works, life & times,
and critical sources are found here. Of particular interest are original
resources such as the Shakespeare Timeline and the Shakespeare genealogy.
The
Modern English Collection A huge collection of online literature
made available by the University of Virginia; many of the works can
be accessed by non-UVA users. Sections of works larger than 100KB
can be retrieved by using a table of contents. There is a link to
the Etext Center, which has works in other languages. (Note: this
page is quite large--647KB).
The Online
Books Page This site features over 7,000 online books, which
can be searched for by author, title, and subject. There is also
news, special features, and archives.
Online Medieval & Classical
Library A collection of public domain works that can be browsed
by title, author, genre, or language. In addition, the collection
can be searched by keyword. This site also has links to other etext
collections on the Web.
Bartleby.com: Great Books Online A
selection of great literature is made available free to the public
for educational purposes; includes a link to the New Bartleby Library,
which can be searched by keyword.
Project Gutenberg One of the oldest
collections of electronic texts on the Internet. P.G. features a virtual
library of literature that is in the public domain. Etext listings
are indexed by author and title and can be searched. Note that etexts
can be FTPed in compressed files.
Reference
The Dictionary
of Sensibility This resource provides definitions for twenty-four
terms of the language of eighteenth-century sensibility. Each definition
is followed by excerpts from important texts of sensibility; each
excerpt is accompanied by commentary that puts the term in context.
Also, the site includes a source bibliography and a critical bibliography.
Writing Resource
Online Writing Lab The "OWL" at
Purdue University features online handouts on how to write term papers.
This site has resources for teachers, as well as links to other OWLs.
