Like most libraries, the library at Gardner-Webb University has checkout policies and fine schedules. A patron must have a valid ID card to check out any type of item. The following schedule is for faculty of GWU:
| ITEM | MAXIMUM # OF ITEMS |
LOAN PERIOD | FINES |
| *Main and Nonprint Collections | no limit | semester | $0.25 per day |
| *Circulating Laptops | 1 item | 3 hours | $5.00 per hour |
| Reserves - 3-day item | 2 items | 72 hours | $5.00 per day |
| Reserves - 1-day item | 2 items | 24 hours | $5.00 per day |
| Reserves - 3-hour item | 2 items | 3 hours | $0.50 per hour |
| Interlibrary Loans | no limit | discretion of lender | $1.00 per day |
There is no limit to the number of main collection and nonprint items that may be checked out to faculty; however, reserve items are limited as shown above.
Faculty who need to take items they have placed on reserve out of the library to use in class need to inform Circulation Staff how long they will need the material so that the checkout period can be overridden. Otherwise, fines will be assessed at the normal rate for reserves.
Reference materials, periodicals, and special collections do not circulate and must be used in the library only; however, faculty may request special permission to take noncirculating material out of the library for a few hours to present in a classroom setting if the class cannot come to the library at that time. If material checked out by special permission becomes overdue, overdue charges will be assessed at the rate of $1 per day.
If items become overdue, faculty are expected to pay the late charges. When a faculty member has overdue items or over $25 in accumulated fines, he/she may not check out any other material from the library until the items are returned and the fines paid. Reserve items automatically begin charging immediately after the item's grace period has expired, so it is important to watch the time carefully or expect to pay a late fine when you return the item to the Circulation Desk!
All patrons must pay for lost items. This charge may include up to $15 in overdue fines, $15 for a replacement/processing fee, plus the actual cost of the item lost. Fines for 3-hour reserve items, which may not leave the library, may accrue up to $36.
Main collection and nonprint items may be renewed for one semester. When in doubt about circulation policies or fines, ask at the Circulation Desk. The library staff will be glad to answer your questions.
