Library Guidelines
Food and Drinks
Although beverages are permitted, we strongly encourage patrons to
use closed containers (such as screw-top bottles, sports
bottles and
travel
mugs),
not open
mugs
or
glasses.
Dover Library is a smoke-free and tobacco-free facility, so tobacco
products are not allowed in the library.
Inappropriate items must be taken outside or left at the Circulation
Desk until the patron leaves.
Cell Phones
No ringing cell phones or loud conversations, please!
Behavior
We request that you be considerate of others while in the library.
Please keep your voice at a reasonable level. You do not have to whisper,
but being too loud is a distraction to other patrons who are also here
to study, do research, and complete assignments. We ask you to be particularly
considerate when going up or down the stairs.
Classrooms
There are two classrooms in the library, both of which (classrooms 119 and 123) are
located on the first floor. To be directed to
either of these rooms, please ask a library staff member for help.
.
Security Gate
The library exit has a security system. If it beeps while you are going out,
please step back and you will be assisted by one of the Circulation
Desk staff.
Handicapped Access
An elevator is available for any mobility-impaired patrons who need to go
to one of the other floors of the library. Please ask for the key at the Circulation
Desk.
MAX Location Designators
For each item you locate in MAX, you will get information about
its location, call number, and status (whether it is checked out or not). The
location designators indicate which collection an item is in. Information
on each collection and its location is provided below.
Main Collection
The circulating collection is organized by the Library of Congress Classification
system. Books that have call numbers that begin with the letters A through F
are located on the top floor. Books that have call numbers beginning with G
through Z
are on the bottom floor.
Reference
Reference materials are located on the main floor and do not circulate. However,
photocopies can be made.
Children's Literature Collection
The Children's Literature Collection, located on the main floor along with the
Curriculum Lab, is designed to supplement course work in
education.
Curriculum Lab
For students who are education majors and plan to teach in local schools, the
library has a collection of public school textbooks and activity materials.
These materials, like those in the Children's Literature Collection, are available
to be checked out.
Statesville Collection
Some nursing books are located at Gardner-Webb's satellite campus in Statesville.
If you need one of these items, the library staff can request
it for you.
Special Collection
Items in the Special Collection include rare books and other materials that
do not circulate. To see a Special Collection item, ask for assistance at the
Circulation Desk.
Nonprint
Most of our nonprint media such as compact discs, videos and DVDs are housed
near the central stairway on the main floor, either in revolving display racks
or on adjacent shelves. Cassette tapes are shelved with print books in the
Main Collection.
