1.) International Orientation

All new international and exchange students are required to attend the International Orientation as communicated by the OIP.

2.) Sign up for GWU Alert

Sign up for GWU Alert to get email and/or Text message (SMS) notifications about emergency information on campus. GWU Alert will only notify you of important information like school closures, weather delays, etc.

3.) GWU ID Card

All students are required to have a GWU ID Card. The first GWU ID Card issued is free of charge. To obtain this card, visit the University Police Office located in Poston Center. It is requested that you bring a driver’s license, passport, or another form of photo identification to the office.

4.) Update Your Address

You must verify that the address GWU has of you is correct. Be sure to change any information that has changed. The categories are as followed:

  • Permanent: Your primary home. This would be where you have come from, and where you will return. This could be a parent's address.
  • Billing: This is where GWU will send the bill for tuition.
  • Local: Where you live while attending GWU. If you live on campus, this is your mailbox address.

5.) Attendance

Regular attendance and class participation are a major part of your grade in classes at American universities. Missing too many classes can put you at risk for failing classes, falling out of immigration status and having to leave the country. At the start of each semester, talk to your professors about their attendance policies. Contact your immigration Advisor if needed.
