Blackboard CE 6.2 is the official distance learning and web-enhanced delivery tool of the university.

For FALL 2008, if you are taking an online course at Gardner-Webb, you should:

  1. Be admitted to the university and registered for the online courses you would like to take. Contact the appropriate Admissions office if you need to apply; current students may contact their advisors for assistance in signing up for online classes.
  2. Have reliable Internet access and a current version of Firefox (browser). Click here to see if your browser is compatible. Most courses also require Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and/or Microsoft PowerPoint. We also recommend that you have your own computer.
  3. Consult the Blackboard Student Support page to make sure certain settings on your machine are ready to use with Blackboard. Programs like pop-up blockers, Norton Internet Securities, McAfee Internet Securities, and Windows XP Service Pack 2 are among those that need to be examined before you are able to access your classes. You may contact Gardner-Webb's Help Desk by phone at (704) 406-4647 or email at detech@gardner-webb.edu.
  4. Have your user name and password. You will log on to Blackboard through the MyWEBB system. If you do not know your user name and password, you may go through our secure user name lookup to find it. Just click on the MyWEBB icon at the top of this page to access this feature.
  5. Know who your instructor is and when your class is starting. It is important to know class start dates, required software, final exam dates/locations, and other information.
  6. Order your textbook(s). It is important to know your books will not automatically be sent to you when you register for a class. You must order them. Please do this as soon as you possibly can. If you plan to use a previously-owned textbook for a class, check with your instructor to ensure you have the correct book/edition.
  7. Check into your class at the Blackboard site as early as one week before your class begins by logging onto MyWEBB and clicking on the Student Tab. Each of your courses utilizing Blackboard will be listed. Read any opening Announcements posted by your instructor. You may be able to log into your course prior to the start of class, but you will not have access to course materials prior to the date your program is beginning.
  8. Be able to meet the attendance requirements, including the face-to-face final exam. Attendance will be measured by activity in the class and that activity will be assessed on a weekly basis. Students must attend at least 75% of the semester in order to receive credit for the course.
