April 22, 2008

wow, it's hard to believe the semester is coming to an end!  I am still pretty busy getting projects done, but the end is in sight!! I am pretty excited because I have a lot of fun things planned for the summer.  I am heading to the beach as soon as finals are over and then staying for a week solid!! Then, I'll come home and soon after, I'll be heading off to work M-Fuge, a missions-oriented summer camp.  I am soooooo excited!!

We've had a lot of pretty days here on campus lately.  I love it when the weather is nice and we can just go outside and relax in the sun.  On any given day, you can look out on the quad and see a multitude of people out there playing, studying, hanging out, and just having fun.  My favorite is going down to the river and floating on the water.  It is so relaxing and so much fun!

Well, I suppose I should get back to work.  I hope everyone is doing well and their school years are winding down nicely.

March 28, 2008

Well, everyone is back from all the breaks and ready to get back to work!  We've had a lot of visits this week since a lot of schools are on spring break this week.  It's been pretty crazy!
Classes this week have been challenging for me because I have had presentations or projects due in every class, each day this week!  But now, everything is turned in and I'm ready to relax this weekend!!  I really hope the weather continues to be nice like it has this week.  So many people have been out on the quad playing frisbee or volleyball.  I was really hoping to get to go down to the river sometime soon as well!
We have our last scheduled Dawg Day this Saturday, so we are pretty busy getting everything ready for that.  I think there seem to be a lot of students coming, or at least that's what I heard.  It starts at 9 in the LYCC, so you should come check it out.  If you can't make it, no worries...you can always call and set up a private visit for another time!

Well, I better run to class!  Later!

March 11, 2008

We're back!  Everyone is back on campus today after Spring Break.  Some people had awesome breaks and they went on mission trips or on road trips, while others (like me) stayed at home and were bored most of the time.  I went home Friday night and was bored almost all week.  I will admit though, I did enjoy the time off to relax, and I actually got ahead on a lot of things that are due this week.  I came back to GWU on Wednesday to watch the baseball game against Furman.  We won! Then, I hung out with some of my friends on the team and my roommate.  We played Rock Band, Guitar Hero, some CMT Karoke video game, and then played board games like Disney Scene it!  My team definately rocked the Scene it! game.  I went back home for the rest of the week, and now I'm back for classes.  It's hard to believe that we have a week and a half before Easter break, and then we start registering for classes and stuff when we come back.  Summer will be here before we know it!  I'm excited though for all of the fun things this year still has to hold.
This weekend is supposed to be my roommate's "birthday weekend" because her birthday is Monday, on St. Patrick's Day.  We don't know what we are going to do to celebrate, but I'm sure it will be fun. She mentioned going to the Cheesecake Factory in Charlotte, but we will see how everything goes.

Hope you all are doing well!   ~Later

February 29, 2008

Well, it's the day before Spring Break and things are winding down for now.  I just finished with my midterms and I'm glad that is over with!!
I'm ready for the chance to relax and be away from school.  I have a lot of friends going to Florida, but instead, I'm going to go home.  I do plan on going snow tubing this weekend though with my roommate before I head home.  I'm pretty excited because the mountains received some snow this weekend!  I really hope that it is fun and we actually get to go because I've heard it is a lot of fun!

I'm looking forward to the chance to be at home and relax while getting to hang out with some friends from back home.  I love being at school, but sometime I get to where I miss being at home. I'm sure after a couple days, I will miss it here at GWU though and want to be back.
It's hard to believe this semester is half over with though when I look back.  It almost feels like we've only been in class for a couple weeks.  Once we get back from Spring Break, we will have a couple of weeks in class before we get out for Easter.  Then, we will come back for a few weeks and then be out for the summer!  It's crazy!!!

Well, I should get back to my work.  Just a couple of classes until I relax!  :)

February 19, 2008

WOW! Last weekend was such a busy weekend!  It all started on Thursday with
Valentines Day.  A bunch of us girls didn't have Valentine's dates, so we
went out for a girls' night.  We were going to go see Step Up 2, but it was
sold out and so we opted to go eat mexican for dinner.
We also talked the waiters to come sing to Erica since her birthday was on
Saturday.  It was a lot of fun, and they gave us flowers when we checked
out!  Then, we walked outside to see my car all decorated for Valentines,
for Erica.  It was really sweet!  Her friend Chris had come to Bronco's
while we ate and decorated my car to surprise Erica when we came out.  There
is a picture of it...

Following all of that excitement was Friday!  We were going to get all
dressed up and go out for Erica's brithday since we had a double-header
against Campbell on Saturday.  We got together and drove down to Spartanburg
to eat at Wild Wings Cafe.  It was really good too!

Then, we went and stood around outside at Bruster's for a bit while some people got icecream, until
we finally ended up at the bowling alley.  It was really fun, even though I didn't bowl my best...
Saturday was a double-header in basketball and we won both games against
Campbell University.  The gym was packed because they brought 2 bus loads of
fans, plus a bunch of people from the community came to support the
bulldogs.  We have our last double header of the season this weekend, and
then it will all be over unless we make it to Nationals.
Well, I guess that is enough for now....take care!

February 11, 2008

Well, now that we are back into the routine of things, I guess I can give an update.  There are only 2 weeks until Spring Break, and boy am I

ready!  I hate those couple of weeks before breaks because things seem to get really busy.  I have a couple of tests this week as well as projects that are due.

I am excited though, because this coming weekend is one of my friends's brithdays.  We have a double-header basketball game on Saturday that she has to cheer at while her roommate and I will be dancing.  Therefore, we are going to go out on Friday night to Spartanburg to eat and go bowling.  It should be lots of fun!

Sorry to make it really short, but I need to run along to my next class...

Hope you are all doing well!

Alana

January 28. 2008

WOW!  Sorry it's taken a while, but I have been busy trying to geat

adjusted to a new schedule again.  It's hard to believe that Spring

Semester 2008 is here!  I'm pretty much in love with all of my classes.

They are very interesting, maybe because they are all classes for my

major, Elementary Education.  Believe it or not, in the 2 weeks we've

been back, I've already had to go to a local elementary school and

teach a lesson for one of my classes!  No worries though, because it

went by smoothly and wasn't hard at all!

Basketball season is in its last month, and that means Dance is too.

We have quite a few games though between now and the end of February.

It should be fun because we are learning one or two more new routines

and then we are going to have a Showcase of Dance here at GWU.  It's

going to be a dance recital sponsored by the Bulldolls and students and

other local dance academies are coming to perform.  The dance team will

do a couple of our dances from throughout the year and then some of us

will be doing other dances.  There will be anything from solos and

duets, to groups coming to perform!  It should be entertaining.

Well, i better run on to class...I have Art for the Classroom Teacher,

and it's pretty much my favorite class!! haha.

December 24, 2007

Well, I know it's been a while but what can I say?  Finals are OVER and

I'm happy with my grades.  I'm definately ready for next semester!!

After exams, I hit the road for a couple of road trips before

Christmas.  I packed up and went to the beach with a couple of friends

for one of their birthdays.  The weather was pretty nice and so we ran

out on the beach and took  some pictures.

Then, I came back to Boiling Springs only to turn around and climb back

into a vehicle and ride around 12 hours to New Orleans on a mission

trip.

I went to N.O. with a group of people I worked with this past summer

with Crossroads Worldwide and we went to help a church and to rebuild

as part of reflief from Katrina.  There were parts that were absolutly

beautiful, but I was still really blown away by how much work is still

to be done down there. We saw a community of pink tents while we were

there and found out that it was part of Brad Pitt's campaign to rebuild

New Orleans.  He has committed to rebuilding 150 houses in the area of

the 9th Ward where houses were literally washed off their foundations.

Each pink tent represents a house and as each house is built, the pink

tents will disappear.  The crew from Crossroads went one night to see

the tents and got pictures, only to see Brad Pitt on TV the next

morning LIVE in front of them!! It was a lot of fun and really made me

think about how blessed I am this holiday season to have a home and a

family to celebrate with.

Now I am home and getting ready for the family Christmas celebrations,

as well as my birthday and then New Years.  Hopefully if I can find a

spare time in all of that, I will be able to write again!

December 3, 2007

Hello again!  Things are certainly getting crazy as the semester comes

to a close.  We are now in our last week of classes so most people are

busy working on projects and papers that they have put off the entire

semester.  I'm a little guilty of that myself, but at least I have

worked on them and are ready to turn them in before the last day of

class.

The basketball teams play a couple of games this week, and the dance

team is doing our Christmas dance to Mariah Carey's All I Want for

Christmas is You!  I'm pretty excited!  We danced in the Kings Mountain

Christmas Parade this past weekend which was interesting...I had never

been to Kings Mountain.

In a way I can't believe the semester is pretty much over, but at the

same time, I am pretty relieved and ready for the break.  As soon as

finals are over, I'm going to the beach for one of my friends' birthday

and then going from there to New Orleans to do missions reconstruction

work with the ministry I worked with this past summer.  I am excited to

see how God will stretch me and use me while I'm down there!

Well, I should probably get back to studying!  Keep checking in to see

what is going on!!

November 26, 2007

Well, everything is returning to normal, at least for a couple of weeks now that everyone is back from Thanksgiving.  I went home and spent time with my family and friends.  I really enjoyed myself too.  We had Thanksgiving lunch at our house with my mom's half of the family and then Thanksgiving dinner with my dad's half. I'll have to say that dinner was a bit more exciting.  My aunt and uncle just got a new puppy.  It is a Shih Tzu-Pekingese mix and it is the CUTEST thing I've ever seen!  I really want a puppy of my own for Christmas, but I don't know if that will happen or not.  His name is Max and he sat in my lap the entire time!

Then, once we were finished eating and cleaning up, we heard about a house that was ridiculously decorated for Christmas.  Someone called to tell us that they had 17 of those inflatable yard-art things and obnoxious lights. One might have thought they watched Christmas Vacation one too many times!  Anyway, we ALL piled into my aunt's Nissan Pathfinder and went in search of this house.  Sure enough, we got there and saw the yard art but it wasn't turned on.  SO, my uncle decides to go up to the door and ask them to turn it on!! and they did!! I don't think I've ever felt more embarrassed...I guess you'd just have to understand my hometown...?

My family and I have made it a tradition to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving on Black Friday, and we did it again this year!!  We stayed up all night Thursday night and went to the mall at 1am when it opened.  We shopped all morning long and got home around 10am to refuel.  Then, we went at it again around 5pm to another mall.  WE ended up at the movies watching Fred Claus.  Then, we actually tried our hand at it one more time Saturday night at yet another mall.  It was a lot of fun!!

Well, being back at school means getting back to work on papers due for the end of the semester.  I should probably get back to work...

November 19, 2007

Hello again!! WOW has it been another busy couple of weeks!  I'm sure many of you may have heard about the frenzy going on with our men's basketball team.  We beat UK about a week and a half ago in part of a tournament and campus went crazy!!  People were running around campus to celebrate and everything!!  We advanced to the next round of the tournament and played UConn in NY at Madison Square Garden.

Unfortunately we ended up with only 4th place, but our boys still played exceptionally well.  We had a group of people camp out to get tickets and sent a group of about 100 students to go support our bulldogs in NY.

On another note, we played our last football game this past weekend.

Unfortunately, Liberty beat us and won the conference championship.  It was a tough game and it was VERY cold!!  I think I'll be sad that football is over, but it's a good thing basketball is just starting up.

Other than that, campus life is beginning to return to normal.  We have two days of class before Thanksgiving break and then when we come back, we only have a couple of weeks before finals and we get out for Christmas.

November 12, 2007

Sorry it's been a while.  The last two weeks have been somewhat crazy for me.  We had a girl get hurt on the dance team over fall break and it was my responisbility to fill her spots in the routines.  Little did I know that in the course of two weeks, I would do 2 basketball events and 2 football games for her!!  It's getting a little crazy this time of year as basketball season starts up while football is still winding down.  I have a few pictures from homecoming though and I'll try to get those posted.

I've had a very busy week.  It's hard to believe the semester is in the stages of beginning to wind down but it's already time to register for

classes again.  I had to figure what classes I wanted to take and come up with a schedule this week and then see my adviser and get everything squared away.  I've also had three tests this week!  Two were in my really easy classes so they were no sweat but the one for Calculus 2 will be a challenge.

I'm pretty excited though, I'm going with one of my friends on the team to the football game at Coastal Carolina this weekend to cheer on our Runnin' Bulldogs from the stands.  We plan on staying at her beach house and having some time to relax before we come back on Sunday.

Maybe I'll be able to get some pictures this weekend?

Well, that's about it for right now.  I should get back to looking over my Calculus one more time.

oh, and if you want to see the dance team performances for the last two weeks, they are posted on youtube under GWU Bulldolls.

My day at GWU - October 25, 2007

Hi!  My name is Alana and I'm a student here at Gardner-Webb.  I've never really blogged before, so hopefully things will get better as time goes on.  Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know what was going on this week at G-Dubb.  Homecoming is this weekend, so this week has been filled with fun things for the students.  I am on the GWU Bulldolls Dance Team and we danced Thursday night at the Bulldog Midnight Madness event.  There were A LOT of students there! It was basically a big event for the basketball teams but there were a bunch of free prizes, give-aways, and contests! They also had free Chick-fil-a sandwiches and free t-shirts! The dance team got to dance our routine and then we stood on the sidelines and danced throughout the rest of the event. I'm not gonna lie, I felt like I had done almost two straight hours of cardio!!

I'm gonna let you in on a little homecoming secret: the G-dubb tradition for the Friday before the football game is to t.p. or "roll" the quad at night. However, it's been raining for the past few days, and rumor has it that no one is allowed to "roll" the quad tonight.

The same thing happened last year, but some people still rolled it anyway.  I guess we will see what happens when we get up Saturday!

haha!!  There is also going to be a Powderpuff Football game for the girls on campus, so that should be fun too!

Saturday is going to be BUSY!! We have one of our visitation days called Dawg Days during the afternoon.  It's a chance for perspective students to come and see the campus, meet other students, and ask questions.  Then, at 5 there is going to be a parade for Homecoming with all of the representatives and floats.  The dance team will be in the parade, so that should be fun!  Then, the game starts at 6:30 and it's going to be televised!  I hope the team does well and that we can beat Charleston Southern.  I will try to get some pictures from this weekend and post them up soon!
