Staff Positions

Associate Provost for Arts and Sciences

Gardner-Webb University seeks a dynamic academic leader to serve as the Associate Provost for Arts and Sciences. The Associate Provost must understand and demonstrate a commitment to the mission and vision of the university and be prepared to work effectively with the faculty of a vibrant, teaching-focused private Christian university. The Associate Provost reports to the Provost and plays a significant role in determining and implementing the university's strategic priorities, providing leadership to the academic program, fostering faculty and staff development, and supporting engaged student-learning.

The responsibilities of the position are varied and call for strategic and energetic leadership. The successful candidate will be one who is committed to the importance and vitality of the liberal arts in undergraduate education; has the ability to inspire and engage professional educators in finding ways to improve the quality of the student academic experience; demonstrates outstanding planning, organizational and administrative skills; shows an openness to new ideas and innovative programming; and demonstrates exceptional communication skills, tact and diplomacy.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in an academic discipline offered at Gardner-Webb University and sufficient academic and scholarly achievement to be eligible for an appointment as a faculty member. Additionally, candidates must possess a significant record of successful leadership experience as a senior university administrator, experience with academic budgets and management of personnel.

Specific Duties

[Note: The following duties apply to the College of Arts and Sciences which accounts for approximately half of the full-time faculty.]

·         Supervises chairs of departments and directors of academic support programs under the Associate Provost’s supervision

·         Oversees teaching schedules, faculty loads, release time, and other related academic matters

·         Interviews and hires prospective faculty members based on recommendations from search committees and approval by the President and the Provost

·         Evaluates faculty performance yearly

·         Participates in the President’s senior staff meetings, representing academic departments and support programs

·         Approves budgets for academic departments and support programs

·         Chairs regular meetings of the Council of Arts and Sciences (chairs, directors)

·         Approves requests for professional development funding

·         Addresses complaints and resolves problems

·         Hears student academic appeals

·         Serves on committees as designated in the faculty handbook or as assigned by the Provost or President

·         Reports to the Provost

·         Performs other duties as assigned by the President or the Provost

Open Faculty Positions

Assistant Professor in Biology

Vacancy in Voice and Opera Instruction
Gardner-Webb University invites applications for fulltime Voice Studio and Opera Director. Principal teaching duties include studio voice, director of the opera theatre program, and related courses such as diction and vocal pedagogy.  Secondary Area expertise in musical theatre, a plus but not required; music survey; or other courses commensurate with the successful candidate's expertise.   Additional duties consist of serving on departmental or school-wide committees, recruiting talented students, advising students and remaining actively involved in performance, pedagogical or scholarly pursuits.  The preferred candidate would hold a doctoral degree in music.  Professional experience equaling a doctorate will be considered. Assistant/Associate Professor of Sport Management

Gardner-Webb University invites applications for tenure-track position. Graduate degree in Sport Management or related field required. Terminal degree, university teaching experience and sport management background are preferred. Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Start date: August 2010. 

Responsibilities:  coordinate undergraduate program in Sport Management, supervise internships, teach variety of classes, and explore creation of graduate program. Other responsibilities include student advising and faculty committee assignments.

NURSING POSITION

GARDNER-WEBB UNIVERSITY School of Nursing invites applications for Assistant/Associate Professor, beginning August 2009.  Candidates should hold an Advanced Practice Nurse Certificate in Family Practice, Gerontology, or Acute Care and either a DNP or PhD in Nursing. Experience in academia should include research and dissertation supervision. Responsibilities include teaching in graduate and undergraduate nursing education, student advising, and committee assignments. Successful applicant must demonstrate sincere interest and ability in teaching, a record of scholarship, and desire to involve graduate students in research and practice. Accounting  Strategy

The Godbold School of Business at Gardner-Webb University invites applications for one faculty position in either of the above areas beginning fall 2009.  Ph.D. or D.B.A. required.   ABD's nearing completion will be considered.  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in areas of concentration and other related business courses, student advising, committee assignments.  Off -campus and evening teaching likely.  Review of applications is underway and will continue until positions are filled.
