Master of Arts in School Administration (K-12)

The focus of the school Administration (K-12) program is to prepare experienced teachers to serve as educational leaders; it is designed to relate to the needs of educators in both theory and practice. Those with bachelor's degrees may enter the two-year program leading to a Master of Arts degree in school administration (K-12), which is a 36-semester-hour program including a 6-hour internship.  In order to be licensed by the state, students must make a satisfactory score on the State Standards Board Examination for school administrators.

Location:

This program is ongoing on the main campus in Boiling Springs, NC, as well as our Charlotte, Statesville, and Winston-Salem campuses.  We also periodically offer this program in a cohort format at various other regional satellites.

Admission Requirements

Students may enter at the beginning of any semester or summer term.  To apply for initial admission to graduate study, the applicant should hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum 2.50 grade point average and:

  1. Submit an application.
  2. Arrange for an official transcript of all previous academic work beyond high school to be sent directly from each institution attended.  The Privacy Act requires that each student request in writing that transcripts be released to the Graduate School Office.
  3. Arrange for submission of scores on the NTE or PRAXIS II Subject Assessment, Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).  GRE and MAT scores must be submitted by the publisher.
  4. Submit three professional references on Gardner-Webb Graduate School reference forms.
  5. Provide evidence of "A" level North Carolina Teacher's license or equivalent.

A minimum of three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher is recommended for entry into this program.

When all documents have been received, the Dean of the Graduate School and the chair or coordinator of the program area will evaluate them.  Students are notified of their admission status as soon as possible after completing the admissions process.  Because of the confidential nature of some items required for admission, the University reserves the right to reject any applicant without stating a reason.
