School of Divinity

General Information Spring 2010

It is our prayer that your study in our community will be beneficial to you and God’s Kingdom as you seek to equip yourself better for ministry.  Should you have any questions not answered below, please do not hesitate to ask members of the faculty or staff for assistance.

Academic and Spiritual Mentoring: A member of the School of Divinity faculty will be assigned as your faculty mentor before pre-registration begins for your second semester of enrollment.  Until you have been assigned a faculty mentor, all questions may be directed to the Associate Dean or Dean of the School of Divinity.

Academic Calendar: Significant dates for the current academic year are published in the School of Divinity catalog and listed on the master “Academic Calendar” of the Registrar’s web page www.gardner-webb.edu/registrar OR by electronic mail.

The divinity “J-Term” is January 5 – 22, 2010.  The spring term is February 1 – May 13, 2010.  (Both are considered “spring” terms for financial aid and academic purposes.)

Course Catalog: The Course Catalog for the 2010-2012 semesters is available. Offerings are subject to change depending on need.

Cancellation of Classes Due to Inclement Weather: Students should expect to attend class every session.  The University does not dismiss classes except under the most extreme circumstances; so assume that classes will meet.  In case of inclement weather, use your best judgment.  In rare instances when the University officially cancels class, commercial television stations run public announcements.  If you are in doubt, call toll-free (877) GWU-SNOW.

Parking:  Student parking is allowed in the paved and gravel lot across from Dover Library and also in the lot adjacent to Communications Study Hall (CSH) across the street from Noel Hall.  The parking slots on Main Street in front of Noel Hall are “owned” by City of Boiling Springs and students’ car are ticketed after an hour.  On campus parking designated with red lines are for faculty and staff only.  Campus police will ticket your car if parked in these slots.

Cell Phones and Pagers: Students who bring cellular telephones and/or pagers to class must turn them off during class.

Chapel Services and Formation Groups: Worship experiences for the School of Divinity community are held in the Dover Chapel six Tuesdays during the spring semester and Mondays in the fall semester from 1:30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m.  Students are required to participate in five of these chapel services as part of spiritual formation. You are also required to participate in five formation group sessions that meet on Tuesdays during the spring and Mondays during the fall at 1:30 p.m. if you are enrolled in a spiritual formation class (DSSF).
