
Danny M. West
Dr. Danny M. West is the Executive Director of the Doctor of Ministry program. Prior to assuming this post in 2004, Dr. West was the Director of the Center for Congregational Enrichment and Associate Professor of Pastoral Studies and Preaching. He came to the School of Divinity from an executive post of the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes where he served as a vice-president. Prior to that, Dr. West had extensive pastoral experience, serving congregations in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. He holds the B.A. degree from Carson-Newman College and the M.Div., Th.M., and Ph.D. degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, having completed his doctoral studies in the discipline of preaching. Dr. West is a frequent contributor to denominational publications, preaching journals, and is a bi-monthly religion columnist for the Kingsport Times-News (Tennessee, 1993-present). He recently contributed a series of sermons to the 2005 Ministers Manual. In addition, Dr. West has contributed to A Cloud of Witnesses: Sermon Illustrations from the Christian Heritage (Smyth and Helwys) and From Our Christian Heritage: Hundreds of Ways to Add Christian History to Teaching, Preaching, and Writing (Smyth and Helwys). Dr. West has reviewed books for the Review and Expositor and The Whitsitt Journal. Deeply involved in the life of the church, Dr. West has served as interim pastor in seven congregations in Tennessee and North Carolina, and is regularly called upon to lead revivals, deacon retreats, and as the featured speaker at church and civic dinners.
