
Sophia Gomes Steibel
Sophia Gomes Steibel is Associate Professor of Christian Education. She joined the School of Divinity faculty in 2001, having served on the University faculty in the Department of Religious Studies since 1993. She earned the B.A. degree from Gardner-Webb University, and the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Steibel, a native-born Brazilian, came to GWU from Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil where she served as President of the Campinas Baptist Theological Seminary. She has also served as professor at the Religious Education Institute and the South Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary. Her publications include: curriculum materials for the Religious Education Board of the Brazilian Baptist Convention and ENCOUNTRO DE ENSINO DINAMICO (Encounter with Dynamic Teaching) a textbook for Christian Methodology Courses. Dr. Steibel wrote an aticle on "Leroy Ford: Interactive Educator" along with Dr. Daryl Eldridge for The Christian Education Journal, Fall 2003; she also completed a biographical entry on Paul Veith for the "Christian Educators of the Twentieth Century" project available at www.Talbot.edu/ceacademic, January 2004.
