Sport Management is one of the fastest growing majors on campus. Since its inception on our campus in 1997, we have had numerous students employed in a variety of different areas including professional sports, YMCAs, fitness clubs, sports retail and other related fields. The program has a business/ sport emphasis and includes a 12 hour internship through which the student obtains valuable hands-on experience.

Conceptual Framework

A sport management major at Gardner-Webb University will receive instruction in sport management principles, business principles and sport principles in a combined program of study shared between the Physical Education, Wellness and Sport Studies Department and the Broyhill School of Business. The student will benefit from an emphasis placed on practical application. This will be accomplished through projects
focused on experiential learning and through a 12 hour internship. The 12 hour internship allows students an opportunity to work full-time in a sport management area of their choice. This provides opportunities for learning not available in the classroom alone.
