Biology Major Requirements (Honors’ Thesis is equivalent to 1hour of seminar)
- A major in Biology requires 30 semester hours above the core
requirement in Biology courses numbered 200 and above, including a class in:
Animal science (Biol 201- Invert Zool.; Biol 202-Vert. Zool.; or Biol 315-Comparative Physiol.)
Plant science (Biol 207-Botany or Biol 320-Plant Systematics)
Molecular science (Biol 301-Genetics; Biol 352-Cell Bio.; Biol 411-Immunology; or
Biol 422-Biochemistry)
Ecology (Biol 402)
- 12 hours of department approved Biology Electives
- 2 hours of seminar
Students may use Honors 400 and/or Honors 401 for three hours of the 12 hours of department approved
Biology electives when the research and thesis topics are appropriate.
- Additional Requirements/Recommendations
In addition to Chemistry 111 in the core, Chemistry 112,
a year of Organic Chemistry (Chem 201, 202), and Caluclus I (Math 151) are required.
Preprofessional students should take Physics 201 and 202 in preparation for professional admission tests.
Biology chosen as a secondary major must meet all the requirements of the primary major.
