Research/teaching areas: Convergence Journalism, Photojournalism, Media Law and Mass Media Theory.
Dr. Carey has also taught computer graphics, layout and design, and web publishing at Gardner-Webb.
He spent 20 years as a photojournalist working with several newspapers and United Press International.
His photographs have appeared in the Dallas Times-Herald, Washington Post, Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, theCommission, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chronicle of Higher Education, Christianity Today and Chrisma. Dr. Carey was editor-in-chief for Missions Today magazine.
Dr. Carey currently serves as one of the directors of the Southwestern Photojournalism Conference and serves on the board of directors of Christians in Photojournalism.
