About the Department of Visual Art
The Department of Visual Art is a component of the Gardner Webb University School of Performing and Visual Arts. The department is a comprehensive art studio and art history program offering the Bachelor of Art in Art, Bachelor of Fine Art, and the Bachelor of Art Education degrees. We offer art minors in studio and art history.
The department offers concentrated studio class tracks of study in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, including in-depth study opportunities in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and printmaking. Our studio classes are supported by student studies from a selection of more than seven art history classes.
Students are guided in their art studies through sequential classes with skill development in our strong arts foundation program and opportunities for development of an independent artistic voice in upper level classes.
Students are expected to exhibit throughout their studies and are supported with annual juried undergraduate and senior exhibits. Art exhibits on campus are under the direction of the gallery director who develops and hangs exhibitions in three distinct galleries including the new Tucker Student Center Gallery.
The art department welcomes students of all skill levels into our foundation program. Our classes are small enough that we can devote individual attention to your development as an artist. We invite you to take a closer look at the department of art through our website information and through a scheduled visit to the university.
