The Gardner-Webb University MARCHING BULLDOGS is a corps-style marching band under the direction of Dr. Mark Cole.
The band performs at:
- each home football game,
- select away games,
- and high school competition exhibitions.
Each member of the MARCHING BULLDOGS receives a $1000 dollar scholarship!!

Dr. Mark R. Cole
Director of Athletic Bands
Coordinator of Music Education
Mark Cole is the Director of Athletic Bands and Coordinator of Music Education at Gardner-Webb University, in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, where he teaches courses in elementary and secondary methods, marching band techniques, music theory, and teaches the percussion studio and the marching and pep bands. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Music Degree in wind conducting from the Florida State University, and is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from the University of South Florida. He has directed the bands at Ridgewood High School (New Port Richie, FL); North Port High School (North Port, FL); Cypress Creek High School (Orlando, FL), and the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (Jacksonville, FL), which won the 2006 Down Beat Magazine Student Music Award for the best arts school symphonic band in the nation. During his career as a Navy musician, he has served as Musical Director for the Midshipman Drum and Bugle Corps at the U.S. Naval Academy, Director of the Navy Band Memphis, TN, Director of the Sixth Fleet Band in Naples, Italy, and as the Assistant Director/Associate Conductor of the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. Mr. Cole composes and arranges for high school bands around the country and is in frequent demand as a guest clinician, consultant, and conductor. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, Music Educators National Conference, the College Music Society, the College Band Directors National Association and the Central States Judges Association, and was selected for inclusion in the 2007 Who’s Who in America.
