Blackboard (WebCT CE6) Training
Instructors desiring to teach hybrid or online courses for Gardner-Webb must be “Blackboard-certified” and should sign up for a Certification Program (both the Blackboard Part 1 and Blackboard Part 2 are required for certification).
You must be either a full-time employee or recommended by the Director of Online Learning or appropriate Department Chair/School Dean to take any of the following Blackboard training courses. Instructors with little or no Blackboard experience are welcome!
If interested, please request one or more of the following, indicating preference of date/time, by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org (please include the workshop title, date, and time you wish to attend). Participants will receive an email confirming which session they are enrolled in as well as workshop location. Space for these workshops is limited.
1) Blackboard Part 1
Overview: This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the possibilities of online and web-enhanced learning. Participants will be introduced to the Blackboard interface and will have ample time to become familiar with it. A sample course will be built, giving participants the skills and course-building experience necessary to be successful with their first course.

2) Blackboard Part 2
Overview: This hands-on workshop builds on the basics learned in Blackboard Part 1 and introduces participants to the gradebook and assessment module. Participants will have the opportunity to learn various assessment techniques and share their best strategies for promoting academic integrity when testing. They will also learn how to effectively use the gradebook to keep students abreast of their progress in the course.
Creating question databases
Randomizing questions and answers
Ensuring the integrity of online assessments/deterring printing
Importing publishers’ testing materials
Using the gradebook
Releasing grades to students
Exporting the gradebook to Excel
Create and utilize question databases
Create a test including question sets and the various types of questions available
Familiarity with strategies to minimize dishonesty on online assessments
Effectively use publisher-provided test materials
Ability to use the gradebook to track student progress
