Dear Candidate for Graduation:
Congratulations on this exciting achievement! We are looking forward to your participation in Gardner Webb’s Commencement activities. We know this will be a memorable time for you and your family.
Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2009 will be held Monday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lutz -Yelton Convocation Center.
Please visit the Registrar’s website for information concerning graduation.

3) From the listing on the right side, select “Graduating Students Lists”
There will be no Sunday rehearsal prior to the ceremony on Monday. Please know that attendance at Commencement is still required. The University has gone to great lengths to plan a ceremony that will make this a special day in your life and, since our graduates are dispersed throughout this geographical area, we think it is important that all of them assemble together for this ceremony. If special circumstances arise that will not allow you to attend, you are required to contact the Office of the Provost in writing: Dr. Ben Leslie, P.O. Box 997, Boiling Springs. NC 28017, or by email blwright@gardner-webb.edu.
On another note, The Jostens Company is again providing academic regalia for our graduates. You will need to order your cap and gown online at (www.shop.jostens.com).

Commencement
December 14, 2009

1. GRADUATE RECEPTION -
A Baccalaureate Service for graduates and their families will be held on Sunday evening, December 13, 6:00 pm, in the Porter Arena of the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center. Immediately following, there will be a reception in Bost Gymnasium hosted by President and Mrs. Frank Bonner. (Sunday dress is appropriate.) We hope you will be able to make this event as it is a time to celebrate your accomplishment with fellow students, faculty members and members of the Administration. You will receive an invitation in a separate mailing to RSVP for these events.
2. PHOTOGRAPHS - A professional photographer will photograph each candidate as the diploma is received from the President. A proof, from which orders may be placed, will be mailed to each student’s permanent address after graduation. The photographer is not connected with Gardner-Webb University and will deal directly with each student. If you have any questions concerning these photos, you may contact Chappell Studios, Inc. at 1-800-424-3686.
3. VIDEOS (VHS/DVD) – a full time professional video production company, Shelby Camera Video & Photography, will videotape every graduate receiving their diploma. If you wish to purchase a VHS or DVD of the graduation ceremony, please use the enclosed form.
4. COMMENCEMENT - Commencement will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center.
5. LOCATION AND ARRIVAL - Assemble in Blanton Auditorium in Hamrick Hall at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 14. PLEASE BE PROMPT. Once you are in the line, DO NOT leave your assigned place. There is a chance that your diploma may be pulled when the order of march is checked a second time if you are not in place.
6. ACADEMIC ATTIRE – You will need to order your cap and gown online (http://shop.jostens.com). Expenses related to academic regalia are the responsibility of the student. See the enclosed green colored insert for details.
CAPS - Caps should be level, not tilted to either side or back. All candidates wear the tassel on the left front quadrant of the cap. Women wear caps throughout the entire service. Men wear caps to their seats, then remove them at the beginning of the invocation. Keep hats off except while receiving degrees. Men remove caps for all prayers.
GOWNS - Dark clothing should be worn with the regalia. Women should wear dark dresses or pants and dark shoes. Men should wear dark pants, dark shoes and dark socks; white shirts and dark neckties.
7. LINE OF MARCH - The marshals will place you in line and indicate for you the route to be followed. Watch your marshals and follow their directions. Once inside the arena, keep together in pairs with the distance constant between you.
8. GUESTS- There is no limit to the number of guests you may ask to attend.
