Dear Candidate for Graduation:

Congratulations on this exciting achievement!  We are looking forward to your participation in Gardner Webb's Commencement activities May 11, 2009.  We know this will be a memorable time for you and your family.

Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2009 will include two commencement ceremonies. The ceremony you are to attend will be determined by the area of study you have completed

The 10:00 a.m. ceremony, Monday, May 11 is for all Undergraduate students, including all Day and GOAL students in the Schools of Business, Education, Nursing, Psychology and Counseling, as well as all bachelor's degree candidates from the departments of Arts and Sciences.  The departments include Communication Studies, English, Fine Arts, World Languages, Mathematical Sciences, Natural Sciences, PEWSS, Religious Studies, and Social Sciences.

The 3:00 p.m. ceremony, Monday, May 11 is for all Graduate Schools, including master's and doctoral candidates from the Schools of Business, Divinity, Education, and Psychology and Counseling.  Only doctoral graduates will be hooded during the ceremony.

Please visit the Registrar's website to confirm which ceremony you are to attend.

1)     Go to www.gardner-webb.edu/registrar

2)     From the listing on the right side, select "Graduation Information"

3)    From the listing on the right side, select "Graduating Students Lists"

4)     From the listing on the right side of the Candidates' page, you may select either Monday "AM List" or Monday "PM List".

Please know that attendance at Commencement is still required.  The University has gone to great lengths to plan a ceremony that will make this a special day in your life and, since our graduates are dispersed throughout this geographical area, we think it is important that all of them assemble together for this ceremony.  If special circumstances arise that will not allow you to attend, you are required to contact the Office of the Provost in writing:  Dr. Ben Leslie, P.O. Box 997, Boiling Springs.  NC  28017, or by email to bnewton@gardner-webb.edu.

On another note, The Jostens Company is again providing academic regalia for our graduates. You will need to order your cap and gown online (www.shop.jostens.com).  You will receive your hood at the Commencement ceremony. Expenses related to academic regalia are the responsibility of the student.

Again, you will find instructions to degree candidates enclosed that indicate the ceremony in which you are to participate.  Please read this information carefully.  If you have questions concerning the graduation ceremony or need special accommodations, please contact the Registrar's Office at (704) 406-4260.

Congratulations on your success at Gardner-Webb University.  We look forward to seeing you in May.

Sincerely,

Benjamin C. Leslie

Provost and Senior Vice President

1.      GRADUATE RECEPTION - A Baccalaureate Service and Reception for graduates and their families will be held on Sunday afternoon, May 10.  (Sunday dress is appropriate.)  This event is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Frank Bonner, and we hope you will be able to attend as it is a time to celebrate your accomplishment with fellow students, faculty members and members of the Administration.  You will receive an invitation with details on time and location in a separate mailing.

2.   PHOTOGRAPHS - A professional photographer will photograph each candidate as the diploma is received from the President.  A proof, from which orders may be placed, will be mailed to each student's permanent address after graduation.  The photographer is not connected with Gardner-Webb University and will deal directly with each student.  If you have any questions concerning these photos, you may contact Chappell Studios, Inc. at 1-800-424-3686.
