Workshops and Special Events

Academic Support Groups

Mondays 6-7:30pm Starting February 1, 2010

The purpose of these groups is to provide a place for students who have faced similar challenges to talk about important issues they deal with both academically and personally. The groups are topic-centered and focus on specific areas of interest to members and are designed to assist students with developing effective skills and techniques to use in academic and interpersonal situations.

Sessions will be held once a week for 90 minutes and will continue for 12 weeks. All sessions will be held in Frank Nanney Hall. If you would like to participate in an academic support group or would like additional information, please contact your disability specialist or call the office at 704-406-3549.

February 8 Workforce Recruitment Interviews

The Work Force Recruitment is sponsored by the federal government who conducts and evaluates participants for entry into a national database for potential employers to review. This is a great opportunity for students to obtain a job and/or internship offers as well as practice résumé writing and interview skills.

Join the Deaf Club at Kate's Skating Rink in Shelby for a fun night on wheels!

Time: 7:00pm

March 5 Yamatos Express- Deaf Club Silent Dinner

Meet at Frank Nanney Hall at 5:00pm to carpool. Dinner from 5:30-7:30.

March 26 YMCA After School Program

The Deaf Club will  provide sign language instruction to the children who participate in the YMCA After School Program.

$2 for GWU Deaf Club members, $3 for non-members, Raffle tickets will be sold.

April 16 Beep Baseball Game

Beep Baseball is an alternative form of baseball which allows blind/ visually impaired students to participate with the use of beeping balls and bases. This game is played nationwide and has a world championship every year. Although Gardner-Webb does not play competitively, the students annually challenge the staff and faculty to a game.
