The Learning Enrichment and Assistance Program

About the Learning Enrichment and Assistance Program

The Learning Enrichment and Assistance Program is a support service intended to facilitate personal development and academic success within the student body. Through the Learning Enrichment and Assistance Program, students receive individual attention in a supportive environment that focuses on particular needs of students, as well as ample opportunity for practice. The Learning Enrichment and Assistance Program’s flagship service is that of Peer Tutoring, which is available to all Gardner-Webb on-campus undergraduate students at no additional cost. This free service is staffed by trained tutors who work to serve the student body and meet its needs wherever possible.

Peer Tutoring

Campus-wide peer tutoring, offered through Gardner-Webb’s Learning Enrichment and Assistance Program (LEAP), is a newly revised program, updated for the purpose of serving the student body both well and efficiently.

Peer Tutors are available for hour-long appointments that can be reserved through MyWebb. Instead of making individual matches between requesting students and staffed tutors, the LEAP program has made it possible for students to reserve an appointment with a peer tutor without going through the unnecessary hassle of making a request, waiting for a response to that request, and arranging contact with the individual tutor. Peer Tutoring will usually begin during the second full week of classes and will take place in a centralized and convenient location (location to be announced).

To make an appointment:

  1. Students should log into My Webb
  2. Click on “Student Services”
  3. Click “Peer Tutoring Appointment Scheduler”
  4. Choose a class from the drop-down menu
  5. Select a date for your tutoring session
  6. Select an available time and click "submit"

Once an appointment is made, the student will receive a confirmation email with details about his/her appointment. If a time is not available on an initial date chosen, students can click "return" to select another day.

Courses for which Peer Tutoring is offered for the Fall Semester (2011) will be announced later in the summer. These courses will be chosen based on peer tutoring request history coupled with their role as part of Gardner-Webb University's undergraduate core. Because of program revisions, not all offered courses receive the Peer Tutoring service; however, the LEAP staff expects the program to grow in the future and looks forward to a more comprehensive Peer Tutoring program that maintains the efficiency of this revision.
